Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Miss Z is very fancy. This was her before she went to her friend's Fancy Nancy birthday party. Z is my niece, 4 years old, and as my husband says, talks like a tweedle bug. She has the greatest dimples, which paired with the head tilt and batted eyes, makes her get away with alot. She is so cute, I can hardly stand it!

Spread him on toast...

This is one of my favorite pictures of S. He was being silly and shy, which Amy really captured. He is so sweet. I keep telling him to stay this age forever, which he replies, "But Mama, I'm a good eater." And he is. Favorites include shrimp, lobster and crab. He's got expensive taste!

Nobody touched anyone before Vacation!

My son's 1st grade class had 7 kids out today. Out of 16! After assembly this morning, I told his class, "Okay now, nobody touched or breath on J!" Then Mrs. V yelled, "Or Me!" We start a winter break Friday, and we are headed for our cottage in Door Co. for the weekend. Not my favorite place to go, but my husband and the boys love it. I bring lots of reading material and think about how I would redecorate it. This is a family owned cottage, so I won't be redecorating. Our room looks great, the rest of the house is not in my taste. Oh well, maybe someday I will have a beach cottage in Savannah or Charleston. Ah, to dream........

Nailpolish Color

I just bought a new OPI nailpolish today, St. Petersburgandy. It makes me think of the movie The Women, with Meg Ryan. And how certain personalities wear certain colors. At the beginning of the movie, she wanted something very neutral, and by the end, as her confidence in herself has grown, she is wearing Jungle Red. I wear dark lipstick and nail polish. Outgoing? Wants to be noticed? Yep! I always feel inspired when I see old films, think Katherine Hepburn, Jane Russell, Marilyn Monroe, their nails were short and dark. Even on my wedding day I had deep red nails and stained lips. They matched the roses in my bouquet. Any thoughts? What do you wear?

Picking a Theme

S, my four year old is busy choosing the theme for his birthday, which is not until August. For someone so young, he truly is a foodie. He told me a couple weeks ago, he wanted a penguin party, then everyone can have salmon. Yesterday S told me he wanted to have a breakfast party, where everyone comes in their pajamas, and has pancakes and fruit smoothies. I guess all that entertaining is rubbing off on the kids. Last year when J turned six, he wanted on Indian party, with Thanksgiving food. So, twenty kids ate a complete Thanksigiving dinner, with linen, gourds and pumpkins, turkey dishes, the works. And it was April! I let you know what S decides!

Kids say the darndest things... the truth!

J, my 6 year old, noticed a plastic surgery commercial on tv, looked up from his cereal and said, "Mama, you should do that." Trying not to have a heart attack, I asked sweetly, "Do you think I need to do that?" "Well", he replied, somewhat sheepishly, "a little around your eyes." Thanks honey child, I love you, too!

Life's Great Mysteries

There are many things that I just don't get:

1. Why do stores put tall people's pants on the bottom shelf, and short people's pants on the top? Shouldn't it be the other way around.

2. Why do you run out of toothpaste, dishsoap, toilet paper, etc. all at the same time. You end up spending $100 at Target with nothing good to eat.

3. Why, when I'm trying to buy a present for my nieces, do I feel like I'm shopping at stores that should be called "Sluts R Us"? They are 10 and 6! For the love of God, where are all the sweet clothes?! I don't envy their mother.

4. Why can my husband remember when some obscure person was born, but can't remember when trash day is?

5. Why is it the day I decide to slack off, and not clean up the house, make beds, pick up laundry, my husband calls to tell me someone is stopping by?

6. Why do my children want nothing to do with me until I pick up the phone?

7. Why do all pants seem really long? I'm five foot, and petites are still long! Do they really expect that I'm wearing 3 inch heels all day?

8. Why is it when I decide that I'll fill up the gas tank tomorrow, that it rains, or is freezing?

Welcome

Welcome! This will be an experience. I've never blogged before! Here it goes. I hope you will take this adventure with me as I cook, decorate, read and entertain, all while raising two fun filled and energetic boys.

Let me introduce myself: I am married with two boys, ages 6 and 4. I was born and raised in Wisconsin, but I think I was meant to live in the South. Every time we visit a southern state, I feel as if I'm home. They seem to "get" me. We live in an almost 100 year old house, filled with antiques. I collect silver and china, which I use with great frequency. I rarely am without a single strand of pearls and never without lipstick. My closet is filled with cashmere and Eliza-B flip flops. I love stationery, Lilly Pulitzer, Robert Parker novels, Ina Garten, Bunny Williams and Vineyard Vines.

Come along, our adventure waits..............
